Welcome to the RP Lab in the Model Studio! Here, you'll be picking up your newly printed name tag. Get a tour of the RP Lab, where you will see our extensive library of 3D printers and can experience how your unique name tag was designed and printed.
 
You just picked up your kick-butt new name tag hot off the printer. Now what?
 
Come to the other side of the Model Studio and work with our Model Artists to add a premium paint job. No experience necessary as we will walk you through some fun techniques and share tricks of the trade. Options include airbrushing, dry brush, washes, tinting, splatter, candy appleing using metallics, laquer and acrylics.

Make your own Mixed Material Coaster (At Capacity, Waitlist Only)
Learn about Laser cutting, etching & UV Printing with Mixed Material Coasters!

Using a supplied illustrator template & quick setup guide prior to the class, students will design their own 3.5x3.5 coasters that will then be produced during the class using wood, acrylic & cork. Prior working knowledge of illustrator is required, no laser cutting or UV printing experience is required.

After sign up, class members will receive their template file and guide, which they will need to submit to Will Belknap one day prior to the class. Any additional questions can be directed to Will Belknap.

This class is like that.  I design crafts for kids and games for adults. Together, we will make something and it will be made out of relatively simple materials. Customizing Figure Bases - 2 Part Class (At Capacity, Waitlist Only)
If you always wanted to make your action figure come to life, then come on down to the model studio to work with the Model Studio team and learn about the sculpting and RP process, as well as the painting process to create your diorama toy shelf.

Part 1 May 22nd 1-2pm
: On day one you will learn about the sculpting and RP process. You will be shown how Jan/Danielle develop a piece and what they have to take into consideration when doing this step. You will learn how to partner with RP to produce a physical part.

Part 2 May 23rd 1-2pm: On day two you will learn the various painting techniques including dry brushing, washes, wipes, overspray, and splatters. Any additional questions can be directed to Tony Colella.

Dye Sublimation Printing (At Capacity, Waitlist Only)
Learn about dye sublimation and how we use it in product development. Students will bring in their own art or photograph to create their own printed 6”x 6” metal plate that will then be produced during the dye sublimation process. Prior to the class the students will need to generate their own 6” 6” art or photograph. After sign up, class members will receive their template file and guide, which they will need to submit to Kayla Demeulenaere a few days prior to the class. Sneaker Customization (Capacity: 10)
During this workshop, you will learn to apply the correct sneaker customization techniques to create lasting designs on your very own slide on flip flops. Participants will be required to bring your own white color flip flop slides (image of style examples will be provided) in either leather, plastic or faux leather. We will have 4 colors available and you will have the option of designing your own simple pattern using the colors available, or you can follow Arrow and recreate his basic donut pattern.

Please note that although this is a longer workshop, participants will be able to take breaks for email etc, as drying time has been worked into the session timeframe.

Basic Bicycle Maintenance Demystified (Capacity: 10)
Do you have a bicycle that needs a little help?   Are the brakes not stopping as well as before, and you’d like to learn how to adjust or even change them so it stops on a dime? Is the chain a little rusted and you’d like to know what to do about it? Or is the tire flat and you just don’t really know how to fix it?  In Basic Bicycle Maintenance Demystified we will be covering all of these things and more; showing you the different ways you can fix your bike yourself as well as explaining the different parts of the bike and how they work.  With just a little knowledge and a couple of tools found in most homes you can fix your bike and bring it back to its former glory.

Personalized 3D Printed and Laser-cut Hasbro Logo Keychains (At Capacity, Wait list only)
Come down to the preliminary model shop and make your own Hasbro logo keychain. Students will learn how to setup and operate the Ultimaker 3D printer and learn how to cut and etch material on the laser cutter using Adobe Illustrator. Students will assemble the parts of the keychain and have the opportunity to customize the reverse side with laser etching. Students who are comfortable with Adobe Illustrator may create their own design within the provided template. Students who do not have experience with Illustrator can submit text that they would like engraved. All submissions for customization must be sent to Nick Barnabe one day prior to class. The class will end with a brief overview of the shop and information on how to gain access.

EVA Foam Armor Class (At Capacity, Waitlist Only)
In this class you will make a full helmet with EVA foam and contact cement. EVA foam is the same material used as floor tiles for gyms and laundry rooms. You will follow a simply pattern to make a basic helmet that will look much like Magneto’s helmet. Then your imagination will be unleashed as you decide to add rivets, horns, spike, fins, etc. The helmet will need to be sprayed with a “Plasti Dip” spray (which we will provide) when finished (5 to 6 coats). Then once dry, it can be painted and will be very durable, ready to wear for Halloween or your next con!
We will have examples of helmets and armor to show as well as patterns for these items and weapons that can all be made from the same EVA material.
